The Sustainable Practice Leader directs all aspects of sustainable design in the office, creating and maintaining initiatives that guide TK&A in continuing their success as a sustainable design firm. The focus for the role is on ensuring an integrated, collaborative approach to sustainable design. This in-house expertise maximizes TK&A's ability to execute an efficient sustainable design process.

The role is responsible for the following:
LEED Certification Management:
Direct team members doing LEED administration for all TK&A LEED projects:
Facilitate goal-setting sustainability charrettes to examine high-performance design opportunities and hold LEED credit review meetings regularly to maintain an integrated design process and hold the team to sustainable performance objectives
Guide the team in using early design models, facilitate materials research and recommendations, life-cycle analysis, specification review, and funding and grant opportunities
Direct the documentation process by guiding team members in coordinating, reviewing and submitting documentation for the LEED design and construction submittal and all regulatory processes
Continuing Education:
Provide resources for staff to take LEED AP exam, including leading frequent study group and maintaining all study material, and keeping up to date with the current LEED system
Facilitate training and programs for existing LEED AP's to maintain their credentials through the GBCI credential maintenance program
Work with the Resource Manager to host relevant trainings, seminars and lunch and learns about sustainable design
Help create sustainable design leaders at leadership and design levels
Operations and Process:
Work with the Core Values Group to create, maintain and implement sustainable design standards for the office through our integrated design process
Implement AIA/Architecture 2030 Challenge via design, operations and education plans
Form strategic partnerships with consultants that can help TK&A push the envelope of sustainable design
Send out periodic newsletter (All the Green That's Fit to Print) updates with regional or national news about sustainability and plan and host periodic sustainability related events. Example: Earth Day events
Maintain a database of all sustainable design project information to be used as a centralized resource, including building performance tracking database
Marketing:
Work closely with the communications department to identify opportunities for design awards, articles, and other publishing opportunities that would highlight our sustainable design achievements or other innovations.
Create proposal language, interview content and other marketing material to showcase our sustainable design expertise and specific project achievements related to LEED or sustainable design
